Chapter 6A Chapter by Angel With A ShotgunHow could Tyler be speaking in my head? I panicked, oh my God, if he can talk in my head, then he must be a Mystic, too!
I heard laughing in my head, "Monica, silly girl. I am not a Mystic. I don’t approve of those filthy deceiving creatures. No, I am nothing like them anymore."
"Wait, you said anymore. So, you used to be a Mystic?"
"Yes Monica, keep up. It was such a horrible lifestyle. Constantly swooping down to save some person in distress. It got boring real fast," he stopped to chuckle darkly. "The evil side of what I could do seemed so much more fun. No one likes being good all the time." "What did you do to my tire!" I was losing control of the car. I tried breaking, but that seemed to make everything worse. I held the steering wheel as straight as I could and eased off the gas. "Xavier help!!!"
There was that chuckling in my head again, "Are you trying to kill me? Why is EVERYONE and their freaking brothers trying to kill me!" "Oh Monica, you figured it out, didn’t you?"
"Figured what out?" "Who I am, Monica."
"I--"
"You even said yourself that I look familiar. So who do I look like, Monica?" That’s when another voice came into the picture. I was so busy talking to Tyler that I didn’t even realize my car stopped, but it didn’t stop because of me. There was someone pushing down on the hood. Someone was standing in complete black in front of my car.
"Monica, get out of the car," his voice was angry. Why was he angry?
I jumped out of the car and ran into him, hugging him so tight, "Don’t ever leave me unprotected again, Xavier! I was so scared that they got you! Why did you leave me?" "Well, well, well. Isn’t this a sight? The damsel in distress has her hero back." I cringed into Xavier’s chest. The voice in my head was no longer there. No, he was standing right behind me. Xavier pulled me behind him. "What are you doing here, Tyler," his voice was menacing and scary. "That’s the greeting I get? No, ’Hi brother, how have you been?’"
"Brother," I stepped around Xavier to get a better look at the two of them. "That’s it! That’s why I knew you looked like someone familiar!" Xavier snapped his head around to look at me, "You know him?!"
I stuttered, "Well, uh, kind of. He hit my car, then fixed my tire, but he didn’t really fix it. He tried to.."
"Tried to what, Monica?"
"He--" "Don’t play stupid, Xavier. I tried to kill her," Tyler snarled. Xavier stopped looking at me and got in Tyler’s face. With his hand gripping Tyler’s neck, Xavier shouted, "Don’t you EVER lay a hand on her! Don’t you have your own person you’re assigned to? Back off mine. You won’t mess this up!" Tyler didn’t say anything, he just smirked at Xavier. He didn’t even seem fazed by his brother’s hand gripping his throat. He didn’t seem fazed until his face started turning purple.
"Xavier, he can’t breath!" "He doesn’t deserve to breath. He went rogue and betrayed everybody. Even our own mother. He means nothing to me anymore." Xavier threw Tyler aside, as if he were nothing, and walked back to me. "Let’s go." He grabbed my arm and steered me towards the car. I was scared to go with Xavier after seeing what he could do to his own family, but did I really want to stay with someone I knew would hurt me? Someone that had already tried to hurt me? Xavier has done nothing but help me, why should I be scared of him? "M, you don’t need to be scared of me. It’s him you need to be afraid of."
"What’s the story behind him, Xavier?" "That’s what I was going to tell you last night, Monica. There’s a lot we need to discuss." "You know I am going to find her, brother, you know I am going to kill her. Maybe I’ll lead those men chasing her right to her. Then I can sit back and not even have to do anything," Tyler cautioned. Why was he Hell-bent on killing me? What had I done that was so wrong? I fall in love with someone, and his friends hate me and want to kill me. I find out I have a Mystic as my guardian and his rogue brother turns up to kill me. I turned away from Xavier’s grasp and looked at Tyler, "Why do you want to kill me so bad? What did I do to you?" "I don’t have anything personal against you, but if killing you means causing my brother pain, well, I’d do it. I will do it. Now, I know he wants to get away from me, and I think I have some boys I need to find anyways." He chuckled and walked to his car that I didn’t even see. "Monica, let’s go. There are things we need to discuss. Now get in the car." I opened up the driver’s side door, but Xavier shut it. "I’ll drive, M" I sighed and walked over to the passenger side and slid into the seat. I felt like I was in trouble, like I was about to get scolded. "Xavier, I’m sorry," I whispered softly. "There’s not much for you to apologize for, I am the one who disappeared. I should of warned you, but there were other things I needed to tend to. I didn’t think you were in immediate danger." "You couldn’t hear me screaming for you in my head?" "Where I was, no. There was no mind connection there," he chuckled, though it was nothing dark like his brothers, "I guess you could say I had no service." "Where were you, Xavier?" "It’s a secret place where Mystics go to get away, or to talk to the higher ups. Now, if I told you where this place is, it wouldn’t be a secret, now would it?" "Do you plan on leaving me again?" "No Monica, now that I know my brother is out and searching for you, I can’t leave your side. He will stop at nothing to hurt you. Speaking of my brother, it’s time we talk about him." "What is there to tell?"
"M, how I wish there wasn’t much to tell. I wish I never had to tell you this story, but there is, and I do." "What is it," I questioned, settling myself comfortably in the seat. "It started back seventeen years ago, when you were born. When your mother gave birth to you, my age froze, but so did my brothers. No one knew why, maybe it’s because we were so close. It’s still debatable as to why, but it did. I was called by the higher ups one day, and they assigned me to you. From the day you were born, we knew there would be trouble. Not you being trouble necessarily, but events in your life would be trouble. Tyler thought it’d be an interesting game."
"He suddenly did everything he could to make sure he got in my way of saving you. He was warned to give it up, or he’d lose his ranks. He eventually gave up and I was always there to protect you again on time. I was always invisible to you, but I was there. I stopped your bike from falling over when you were learning to ride. I walked by your side every day you left for school."
"I was by your side as long as I could be. When you started high school, the higher ups called me back in to debrief me on you. They could foresee that your life was about to change, that it was about to become more, well, complicated. Your parents left you in the hands of your uncle, little did they know he was taking drugs. They didn’t call, they didn’t check in, they didn’t send letters or anything." "They disappeared into thin air, leaving their only daughter behind with a drug addict. Your uncle was never around much, but I was. You then met David, and I received word that you two meeting should of never happened. It was too soon for you two to meet, but of course, Tyler encouraged that. He pushed David towards your life."
"He knew that you both should of met a lot later in life, because simply right now was not the time. His friends didn’t want David to have a girlfriend, because they didn’t want him distracted. They were scared of change. Somehow Tyler found out the outcome of what would happen if you two spent your teenage years together. I was told to break you two up, but it was clear how meant for each other you two were." "I couldn’t bear to break your heart, so I let it be. Then things started heating up, you two became very in love, until David was forced to move away. The Lite, which are the higher ups, put thoughts in his parents minds." "They made his parents think that you two were too serious about each other, giving your young age. They decided some distance would be best, and it’d give their son a chance to really live. I watched your heart shatter as you said goodbye to him. You didn’t understand why his parents all of a sudden didn’t like you. You didn’t understand what changed. You continued to be together, but then you started getting hate messages from his friends. I was strictly forbidden to intervene, because they were just that. Hate messages."
"The Lite did not foresee anything bad happening, so I didn’t need to protect you. Then things began to heat up, and I was still forbidden. Until they became an immediate danger, I wasn’t allowed to help." "Xavier, when does Tyler come in?" "Tyler is the guy from the alley, Monica. He’s the one that’s been "stalking" you, as you put it." "What! There is NO way! I would of recognized his voice!" "We are able to change our voices. I wasn’t allowed to tell you, I was sworn to secrecy. When I went to see the Lite today, I discussed with them about Tyler. They told me he has been tormenting you, or planning to anyways. I couldn’t let him know earlier that I knew you knew him. It would throw off our element of knowing. He CAN‘T know that we can foresee things he, or anyone else for that matter, does." I was trying to digest all of this information. My breathing came out in short, raspy gasps. Tyler was my stalker? Was I ever in immediate danger? Never mind that, of course I was. He wants to kill me. I sighed, thinking to myself, "If more people decide they want to kill me, they could make a club of it!" "Xavier, what are we going to do? He’s going to go find Christian, Fabian, and Damian. Oh my God, David! I never got the chance to call him! Xavier, he said he flew in! He flew into Nevada! What if Tyler goes back and hurts him?" "M, don’t worry. I know David’s back. We’ve got people watching over him."
"Where are we going to go? David’s friends aren’t going to stop chasing me. Not until I’m dead." "Monica, you are not going to die, what do you think you have me for? I am going to protect you." "Xavier-" "Monica, get some sleep. You need it." I wasn’t going to complain. Seems every day I learn some new, shocking information. My head was spinning, and I decided a little nap couldn’t hurt. I closed my eyes when he spoke again. "Oh and Monica?" I mumbled incoherently, letting him know to carry on. "Let me see your phone." This confused me, why on Earth would he need my phone? "Why," I questioned cautiously.
"You never thought it was strange how they kept finding you? My guess is they bugged your phone." I handed him my phone and he searched for the tracking device on it. "Huh," he said, confused. "What is it?"
"There’s no chip. Nothing, zilch." This worried me. "Xavier?" "What?"
"If there’s no chip," I spoke slowly, "then how do they keep finding me?" © 2012 Angel With A ShotgunAuthor's Note
