Spirited Away

Spirited Away

A Poem by Risa McCarthy

I lay, bleeding, dying, and crying.

I’m screaming for a haven,

But there is no soul but my own within this hell I’ve fallen into.

The cold hard ground is stained with blood,

The air is thick with suffering cries longing for salvation.

In this realm of death,

Eternity is only a moment.

My screams weaken, my breath subsides,

I lay motionless in a pool of my own scornful blood.

The darkness of death comes to comfort me,

My soul is spirited away by the moaning wind.

The scarlet blood is washed away by the weeping rain.

I am lost.
