My Own Shoes

My Own Shoes

A Poem by Angellesa

I want to stand in my own shoes.
I do not want to follow you.
I want to find out who I am.
I do not want to be your Madam.
I want to breathe on my own.
I do not want to be condemned at home.
I want to be loved once more.
I do not want to be scorned.
I want to fly like a dove.
I do not want your kind of love.
I want to stand in the wind.
I do not want to bow and bend.
I want to walk on my own.
I do not want to be owned.
I want to feel life.
I do not want to be your wife.
I want to stand in my own shoes.
That is why I got rid of you.

Nicely done! It's short and to the point. The absense of flowerly words lends to the power behind the words. We so often lose ourselves in our relationships (alot of my work reflects this) and it's refreshing to read about refusing to be controlled anymore.

So there!
Strong, determined, independent, focused. Perfect!
Nicely done.

Harsh, but nicely written.
And hopefully something that helped you get the burden off your chest.

Beautifully written. An indictment against the traditional role of women in love and life afterwords.

Brilliant poem!
