To The Moon & Back

To The Moon & Back

A Poem by AngelMarie

A beautiful porcelain statue of perfection,
She lay in my arms,
Asleep in her sin.
She inhales
I exhale
Mile upon mile of flawless
Godless
skin.
I stare in disbelief.
Does she know
that I hate myself?
Does she know
that I love her?
I am weak and you
you are a vision in my bedsheets.
It was meaningless,
she said.
I was drunk,
she choked
through rehearsed tears.
I swallow my fear.
I have loved this one before,
knelt in teardrops at her door,
Poor decision, poor
design
Resigned
to the beat of my heart
like the roar
of her breath in my ears
a different face
a different name
but just the same-I've been here.
You will crush my very breath
until it hurts to swallow air.
You will singe my very heart
until it's ashes
catch in my throat
& float away on the sunset's breeze,
landing on your gypsy tongue as you speak
lies as sweet
as you
and the night air resonates with your false
'I do.'s .
