The Voice of Truth

The Voice of Truth

A Poem by Aneto

I hear a whisper in my heart
But fear to listen lest I start
To hear His voice misunderstood
And steer myself from paths of good
In chase of something better when
My place is waiting here again
But grace continues calling out
My face a mix of hope and doubt

My child dear
Incline your ear
Lay down your fear
I've found you here
You need no sign when hopes rejoice
Oh sheep of mine, you know my voice

I want to say my doubt was gone
But haunting thoughts with daggers drawn
Were prodding memories of when
The god I heard was words of men
But something in the tone is right
I'd come to learn before this night
To trust the voice that, when it's true
Can just the same say, "I love you"

And so with Samuel's "I am here"
I slowly open up my ear

I long to speak and share with you
A song unique, a prayer come true
Your faith is strong, your faith is true
You've waited long to make it through
Your love is evident with grace
A humble heaven-sent embrace
But one of three must still remain
My son, I see that hope brings pain
Discouragement now feeds despair
Of nourishment and needed care
But see the birds up in the air?
They heed no words of dim despair

For good will come tomorrow
It's seen with hopeful eyes
And should it come with sorrow
And even woeful cries
Then all the more your hope
Must clash with darkening gloom
The squall and storm will blow
So lash your heart to truth

The present is a gift
The flowers know no hurry
Their pleasantness would drift
Through hours free from worry
This hope that can remain is now
Awakening my world
It opens clammed-up pain somehow
To make a string of pearls

And yes, some goodsome things of life
May never come my way
For I have hoped for home and wife
Endeavoring oft to pray
Yet these are but a metaphor
Of all the good He has in store
And hopes for blessings from our Lord
Can keep our spirits looking toward
The consummation of desire
Christ will come with eyes of fire
Bringing home His chosen bride
Free from dross and purified

Yes, I see it now...
Indeed, I hear it now...

My Beloved calls my name
Whispers love to banish shame
Chosen by His Majesty
Claimed for all eternity
