Left Alonely

Left Alonely

A Poem by Aneto

I stand alone amidst the field
The time is right, are you not here?

So waiting till my fate is sealed

Alone I stand and quell my fear

Perhaps confusion or delay?

A myriad of reasons rise

But this had been the time and day

Your absence is a cold surprise

The weight of standing sits me down

My eager mood has drooped as well

Not holding breath, but yet to drown

The waiting place is where I dwell

Looking up, the flowers play

Their petals dancing in the breeze

It’s wonderful, but I must stay

And buoy here on patient seas

I call to mind the words you said

To welcome invitation’s rain

But hopes have been deferred instead

My hand of friendship stretched in vain

Will you never come to me?

Are memories our only bond?

The darkness deepened endlessly

Until at last the morning dawned

I woke from yet another dream

My eyes beheld the somber truth

Another ghost with pallid gleam

To haunt the heart of hopeful youth

I promise you, I won’t forget

My heart still holds a place for you

The times we shared I won't regret

Though losing friends is hard to do

Often now, I recollect

How many times I called your name

To offer ways to reconnect

And yet, alas, you never came
