UnforgottenA Poem by Aneto
The breath of autumn brings to mind
The moments when the stars aligned And stories intersected... ...long ago Often recollected... ...here we go ~ When all the rest were not awake I met a girl beside the lake I gently came to ask her whether We could sit alone together ~ All her friends lived far away And yet each weekend she would stay In this, my town, to work and climb All by herself, except this time ~ She didn't want to be alone Anxiety and terror prone She came to help me cook the food But joined the game that soon ensued ~ Tired, stressed, not feeling well The churning depths too much to tell Since solitude must first be sought I took her to the sunrise spot ~ A simple song expressing care We stepped upstairs so I could share Though how she felt I could not gauge She always kept the lyric page ~ Five years old, a bonnie lass A shining jewel within the class Her skills unmatched by all the rest But bringing joy she did the best ~ Despite her friend, I took the chance And asked her for a single dance The treasured moments came and went She'll never know how much it meant ~ How she came to find a way To breach the walls that kept at bay And reach a heart through feet of snow Is more than I will ever know ~ Her name and face had rung a bell "And I remember you as well" Her smile never left that night Two years of prayer and now, delight ~ With teary eyes and bravest face She asked for us to have some space Though at the time I wondered why She taught me how to say goodbye ~ Thank you, each and every one For all the things you've said and done To shape my story, grow my heart Meet, impart, and then depart I treasure every memory An unforgotten symphony And should we meet again someday My smile speaks what words can't say © 2023 AnetoReviews
