The Fade

The Fade

A Poem by Aneto

The sands of time erode the things
That constitute our lives
Rusty gates deteriorate
With dulling knives and faded rings

Our lonesome lives have lost their luster
Creaking hinges groan with age
All can tell we moan as well
And hopeless rage is all we muster

The grimmest secrets weigh us down
We grimace often inwardly
Our sorrows met with deep regret
Their synergy begets a frown

Dust to dust and ash to ash
We toil to raise a monument
To hail and praise our golden days
Then complement the heap of trash

Oh, for wings to rise above
To taste the sunrise bliss
As whispers sing, aromas bring
The gentle kiss of Jesus' love

But here I am, awaiting all
I hope will come someday
To persevere until I hear
My Father say, at last, the call

Well done, I enjoyed this little experience of your poem. I like the form you chose too.

Thank you so much! I really enjoyed discovering a palindromic rhyme scheme.
