Pandora's Box

Pandora's Box

A Poem by Aneto

Could it be possible?
I surely don't know
Is that line even crossable?
Dare I hope so?

For years, I'd never opened that box
Imagined a thousand monsters let loose
And so I had bound it with chains and locks
Fighting a war by insisting a truce

But then in a place where love's warmth was so strong
It melted my mettle; my armor was gone
A harmless box sat in its place
Whose contents begged to be read before erased

With cautious step, I crossed the room
To meet the scene that would greet my sight
I opened the box of Pandora's doom
Praying the consequences would be light

So was that the end of the world as I knew it?
The answer, I daresay, is "No"
And could love's graciousness get me through it?
I surely believe so
