Not YetA Poem by Aneto
Before our food, we bow in prayer
And pause before communion’s cup And just before the host will share He thanks the guests for showing up And those who wish to ride the train Will wait together at the stop And travelers coming home again Must halt before the door and knock But why the need to still our heart And wait before our needs are met? Before the fellowship can start We hear the old refrain, “Not Yet” Anticipation is the key Apart from which, our hope is locked We long for flight expectantly Just as an arrow freshly nocked And though it may seem rather dumb To watch for what we cannot see We hope for what we know will come Through faith, we’re waiting eagerly But what of meals we eat alone? And what of trains that never come? For when returned from whence we roam Our knocks, unanswered, leave us glum Yea in this world and in this life Not every promised pleasure comes Our hope deferred cuts like a knife And disappointment slowly numbs And so we don despair and doubt In dire disillusionment And cast our faithful hoping out As promises away are sent But One who promises is true And fellowship with Him is nigh Rise up in faith and hope anew We wait to meet Him in the sky © 2023 Aneto |
