Footsteps of A Broken ManA Poem by Andrew WilliamsonA poem I wrote during a lonely period in my lifeEvery shoe print planted firmly No destination, just direction Sorrow hangs from heavily shoulders A pilgrimage to find perfection His bag is packed for many winters Though he steps as light as snow Till stopping briefly at a crossroad Treading land where no man goes He leaves a trail a path behind Following a changing plan Lifting hope his one ambition The footsteps of a broken man He turns a corner, sees a lady His heart sinks like a solid stone And back he turns, retracing footsteps Walks the empty path alone A drought that seems to last an era Takes its toll on weary feet The man collapses, barely breathing Coughing sand, admits defeat He leaves a trail a path behind Following a changing plan Lifting hope his one ambition The footsteps of a broken man
