the monster from the deep

A long time ago, on a sea far, far away, the captain of a ship

joked with children on a trip

‘Be warned’ the sea dog said with a wink ‘If ye come across the

monster then we might just sink.’

‘Monster, what monster?’ the children cried.

‘Why the monster from the deep’, the sailor replied.

‘Please tell us more! Yes! Does it roar? Is it horribly big and strong?’

‘Well, if I must,’ the captain groaned ‘but the monster is terrible and

the tale is long.’

‘Please do, please do,’ the children plead, while the sea dog grumbled

and scratched his head.

‘Be it on yer heads,’ the captain said, ‘if ye want to know more

I’ll tell.’

The children were nervous, but begged him ‘Please!’ and this is what he said:

‘The monster from the deep has two left feet and a ring through the

end of its nose.

‘It breathes through a hose, has bright green toes and an eye in the

middle of its head.

‘It has two red wings made of shells and things and can fly just as well

as it swims.

‘And its favourite dish is children and chips washed down with little

girls’ toes.’

The children gasped, then hugged on deck, the monster sounded

scary and they wanted their beds.

Just then the sea did bubble and boil and a hideous monster rose. It

flew from the sea to the height of a tree, then landed with a

whumph on deck.

There it stood, in all its glory " just as ugly as the captain’s story.

One big eye, bright green toes, big red wings and a ring through

its nose.

The children screamed at the sight of this thing, then dashed round

the ship and hid. The sea dog stayed, and there he prayed, to the

gods of the watery floes.  ‘Ye can’t be real,’ the captain said ‘Ye were

just a story in my head.’

‘I’m real all right’ the monster spat,’ And I’ve heard enough of

your claptrap.’

With that the sea dog jumped in the sea, screaming ‘Goodbye, dear

children, don’t worry about me’

The children peered from their hiding places, as the hideous monster

begged and pleaded ‘Come out my dears, no need to be shy, I

don’t eat children, I only eat pies.’

Out they crept onto the deck, slowly at first but soon at breakneck.

‘I’m fond of children’ the monster said, then it danced a little jig on

strange little legs.

The children cheered, then clapped, to see such a sight ‘Come closer,’

it said ‘I don’t bite’.

So the children gathered round the monster from the deep, with its

one big eye and its two left feet.  Then it started to laugh and it

started to drool and the children started thinking ‘this is really

not cool…’

Then its mouth opened wide, it scooped the children inside and it

plunged to the depths below.
