Blink and Wake Up

Blink and Wake Up

A Poem by Andrew Nelson Stewart
"

Trying to start a fire as an escape from being lost for too long. The inevitable madness we all endure when attempting to set things to a simmer in battle for reality.

"
Thinking I was dead
Didn't think I get this far into no man's land
You shooting thousands of arrows into the bear night,
completely naked to the effects of dying so well in a world breaking faith till religion crawls on all fours.. Was I ready for mercy or just a glimpse of a fading light?
My last breath was only dreams exhaled out,
My last sound was echo of blades & swords slamming against each other in rugged-torn armor.
Injured wild- eyes never lost sight.
My heart  was like a piece of paper dancing in the wind getting caught up in something new.
Finally, my last drop of blood extinguished in flames
but wasn't prepared for such perils casting shadows one by one.

Impetuous Time,
 Somehow or somewhere
battles will rise and fall.

Thousands of nights and faded letters seemed to be my last thought

My soft- spoken life was nothing but a dream dancing alone while losing sight of yours.

Blink and wake up,
                                  Blink and wake up.

 No matter how many times
I die the same but in different ways.

Author's Note

Andrew Nelson Stewart
While writing this been thinking about the ancient times how vague life was yet so vast in land sometimes decorated in blood from battles. I express in a way of putting myself in their shoes. But also designed this to go a different way such as love in a cage when all you wanted to do is set it free sometimes time doesn't allow you to only to blink and wake up in a different place.

lots in this one sir! love the title and its repetition in the poem .. works in a powerful way .. its like a battle cry ... for me there is plenty of creative tension built .. dying, shooting arrows, swords slamming, no man's land to name a few .. all in the first V. V2 is like a brief interlude .. a pause for breath ... love it! and for me it is the turn as your voice becomes more personal and revealing .. My soft spoken life ... super resolution to the preceding tension says i! ... after all that .. your protagonist is a gentle folk! .. closing seems another turn to more philosophical .. a rebirth .. lessons learned .. a new start .. i especially like the V1 L9 .. the simile of paper in the wind ... fine stuff says i .. didn't miss the bit of word play with bear, not bare ... after reading your note the caveman comes out in it. great read .. enjoyed it all.

' My heart was like a piece of paper dancing in the wind getting caught up in something new. '

There is so much drama in this poem, the arena is brim full with discord and methinks, desperation.
That seems to be how it is when conflicts erupt and whatever one does is not necessarily wrong but rarely right. We are who we are, different people experiencing either or both emotions or an overspill of logic.. not always best bedfellows. Perhaps give and take mean little, perhaps neither mean what they should. A white flag perhaps flies half mast for full marks for trying.

This is really great. The last line is the most perfect ending this could have had.

When I read these lines I focused on relationships and how fleeting we are as we pass through. Our years here are few in the overall picture and yet we don't always make harmonious unions do we? As we age I think we are able to look back and reflect as the sands in the timer are shifting ever faster. Wisdom comes with the years. I wish I hadn't spent so much time trying to fix relationships which were broken. When I think of the efforts I made particularly in work place settings, I have come to realise that you can't please everyone and maybe it's just not worth making the effort in some cases. Some people thrive on conflict. Life is too short, let them go. That's where your fine lines took me Andrew. All good wishes
