Chapter Twelve

Chapter Twelve

A Chapter by Stan Lee

They were three squashed into the room. Laura sitting cross legged on her bed, Rocky lying on the floor between the two bed and Amber kneeling beside him.

"I think it will work best if we do it now, around the time when you first changed from a statue" she explained.

"What are you going to do?" asked Rocky.

"You'll see." She started placing pieces of paper on Rocky's legs."Laura, get me as much paper as you can find." she instructed.

Laura looked confused but she trusted her sister. She started searching around for paper and helped Amber put it on Rocky. But there wasn't much paper in the hotel room.

"Amber, I've run out of paper."

Amber didn't even glance up. She grabbed her diary, tearing pages out of it.

"Whoa! Amber!" exclaimed Laura. "Not your poetry!"

"Not your poetry!" echoed Rocky. "Your precious poetry that you talked about each night!"

Amber paused only for a moment. She looked from one to the other, shrugged and continued tearing up her diary. "Come on! This is far more important." Rocky gasped when she covered his heart. "Hang in there Rocky!" She was breathing heavily now. Moments later only his face remained uncovered. Amber leaned in close. "Trust me on this Rocky. I'll come back for you." She kissed his lips. "I love you Rocky" she whispered and she placed a final piece of paper over his face.

It floated to the ground. There was nothing there. Only a pile of papers on the floor.

Two jaws dropped. There was stunned silence until Laura spoke up triumphantly. "Well that worked!" Then she noticed Amber's face had turned ashen. "What? Amber? Are you ok?" Her sister didn't move. Concerned Laura sat down next to her. "What's the matter Amber?" she asked, "Didn't you expect that to work?"

Amber's eyes were glassy and shocked. "What have I done?"

She whispered so quietly that Laura could barely hear her. "I thought he'd turn to stone. I didn't think he'd disappear."

Laura sat by her sister for a long time. "I think you'd better lie down" she said finally. "I'll go and get you a drink of water." Laura was back in moments with a glass of water in one hand. A grin was bursting from her face. "Drink this quick Amber! You're gonna need it. I've got another surprise for you."

She made Amber drink the glass of water before telling her, "Guess who's standing out in the hall back on his pedestal!"

Wait a minute??? and ? I think I get it, maybe, possibly, sorta. Does this have something to do with the scissors at the beginning? Hmm, we shall see.
