Chapter Eleven

Chapter Eleven

A Chapter by Stan Lee

It was their last night together. A gentle moon shone softly down on them, Rocky with his arm bandaged expertly and Amber cuddling into his chest.

“Breathe” she thought to herself, “Just breath, in, out, in, out”.  She had rocks in her stomach " a feeling that no one would ever understand much less be able to explain unless they too had seen their best friend trying to commit suicide.

“Breathe, just breathe.” She listened to the steady rhythm of his heart beating, felt the rise and fall of his breathing and tried to clear her mind. “No-one heard me screaming. Clear your mind Amber. He had a blade. Clear your mind. What if I'd been one minute later? Clear your mind Amber.”

There had to be a solution out there somewhere.  Every problem has a solution. You just have to look for it hard enough.

Finally her mind was freed and started to wander. Wander, wonder, wither… She was drifting - drifting back through time sifting through memories, facts, knowledge banks. Drifting, sifting, shifting…

It was about five in the morning. Amber’s mind wandered past the silly little games she used to play as a child - simple, childish games. Then suddenly there was light. Amber sat bolt upright with an exclamation of surprise. She had the solution! It was so simple.

Rocky was asleep. Amber wanted to shake him awake. She wanted to scream and whoop with excitement but his sleeping face was so beautiful and peaceful. “The answer! The answer!” she whispered to herself. Shivering with sheer excitement she hugged herself and sat there thinking and waiting. Thinking and waiting for Rocky to wake up.
