Chapter Five

Chapter Five

A Chapter by Stan Lee

Soon with their tummies full of mousakka and sweet baklava the three were shopping hard. As predicted, Laura had decided to come, muttering under her breath about how 'someone' had to look after the love birds. Amber was glad too because Rocky was like looking after a little kid. They had discovered very quickly that he had no knowledge of the basics such as shopping, paying for things or crossing the road.

"How is it that you know how to speak but you know nothing about basic things like money" Amber asked Rocky, grabbing his arm to prevent him from walking onto the road again. It was as though he didn't hear her. His eyes were wide, drinking in the world.  But when she dragged him into another clothes shop he suddenly answered.

"I'm only a statue you know" he said.

"What?"

"That's why I don't know all this. All this is new to me. As far back as I can remember I've only ever sat there in the hotel"

"So how do you know how to talk?"

"From listening to people talking I guess" Rocky answered.

Laura piped up then. "So all the time you've sat there you've been taking everything in?"

"Yep."

"Ha! And all this time I thought you just had rocks in your head" she quipped.

Amber cut in, "That's amazing Rocky! What's the earliest thing you can remember?"

Rocky shook his head. "I don't know. Everything is swirling in my head right now. It's like a serious information overload."

Presently they had everything that they needed. Not that they really knew what they needed. Who knew whether a statue would need a shaver or deodorant? Laura continued to be in a cynical mood.

"Just as well you found someone as generous as Amber to shell out all this money for you."

"Ignore her Rocky" said Amber, "Don't let her upset you. I'm happy to buy this for you."

But Laura had successfully killed the mood and Rocky remained silent all the way back to the hotel.

"Well that's clothes sorted!" Amber said cheerfully trying to lift the mood. Then suddenly her face fell too. "Where are you going to sleep tonight? ....Presuming that you do need sleep?"

Aaah, I should have thought of that as a chat up line. "hey, excuse me Miss. I used to be a statue but came alive and have nowhere to sleep tonight. Can you help?"
Well done Rocky. They'd have ran a mile from me :-)
