No reason to smile...

No reason to smile...

A Poem by Stan Lee
"

A sort of poem...

"
What makes you smile?

I see you smile but nothing’s there

I ask you why, you say “no reason”

Your eyes are laughing

Face beaming like the sun coming out

What are you thinking? “Nothing” you reply.

Do I need a reason?

Can’t I just smile?

How can I explain my happiness?

When it’s quite unexplainable

Waves of emotion

Don’t you get them too?

Waves of sadness, waves of nostalgia

This is a random wave of happiness.

What are you laughing at?

I heard you laugh but nothing’s there

I ask you why, you say “no reason”

But I heard you laugh!

Why is it I ask?

“Better to laugh than to cry” you reply.

I have no reason

Simply feeling ok

Maybe somebody sent up a prayer for me

Just for a moment I forgot all my worries

I’m not insane

Truly I’m not

I can stop laughing and go back to sad

But why is it crazy to laugh for no reason?

Why are you happy?

There must be a reason

You told me it was nothing

But I don’t believe you

No one’s happy for no reason

Not when their life is stuffed up like yours

I’m not a liar

I’m just smiling

It’s a sad day when you can’t even do that

Without somebody questioning your sanity

You’re right of course

I’ve no reason to smile

Maybe the stress of it all has sent me insane

Do you really think I’ve lost my marbles?

Why are you crying?

Your smile's upside down

And your eyes are all teary

I ask you why, you say “’cause I’m sad”

I liked the smile better

But this sad face makes more sense

You have no reason to smile that I know.

Thanks for reminding me.

A message for you

A word of advice

Don’t demand reasons for a precious smile

If you see someone laughing, join in!

Happiness is rare

Smiles can be fragile

The common sad face is a smile upside-down

But sometimes it can be the other way round.

oh yes, a smile is much better than a frown. there's a day for lovers (Valentine), a day for mums, a day for labour. why isn't there a "Smile Day"? imagine walking around smiling at starngers, making their day that little bit brighter!
Love this one, Andronicus. good of you to send smiles to the reader. I feel this site needs them badly.

Its so you, Andrea. Like you are giving reasons for this picture of your smiley.
Bang on style, flow and plot!
Ending did make me sad. Smile is such a precious gift that appreciates by sharing and depreciates by questioning.
Beautifully gripping!
Last stanza made me smile!

Indeed! You are welcome.
Music to my ears. I had a "preaching to the choir" moment after reading this. I feel like people don't need a reason to be happy. I'm always happy for no reason (Sometimes people think I'm mentally unstable) but I still wake up with a smile because regardless of all that I'm still happy. Thank you very much for opening my eyes (And heart)! This was truly an amazing piece of work. Takes skill to write something like this! And you my friend have got it!! NEVER STOP SMILING! (For no reason even)

"Of course you can," she said again optimistically, "you can be anything you want to be" ;)

Yes, beautifully put. Why question a brief moment that for no reason makes you smile. Take it, cherish it, love it for what it is. a gift.
Wonderful work yet again Andronicus. It has been an absolute pleasure to read.

Well there's a reason to smile in itself! :) Thank you Dante. I appreciate your kind feedback.
This perfectly expresses what a rollercoaster our emotions can be. Sometimes I feel sad and don't know why, sometimes I'm happy for no reason. Glad to know it's not just me!

Keep smiling
i really enjoy reading your poem. It tells us that we are no slaves of our mood, as some of us might think. We can decide if we want to bath in sadness or if we keep at least a piece of happiness. My friend Jack calls it "fake it until you make it", just smile and you will feel better. I never believed in this till i tried. Your poem is something to put on the wall above the desk. No reasons are demanded for smile and laughter, that's very fine. Thank you, Andronicus, for sharing your lovely poetry with us!

Would the sight of someone smiling not be enough for us to just smile back. Why question it at all? These days stress seems to have taken over the world and everyone (typicaly) is frowning so when we see someone smile the human reaction is "why are you smiling?"

This was well put together. I am now smiling.
