San Antonio

San Antonio

A Poem by Androglossia

A white moth rustles
beneath the old wooden
bench at 5 a.m.
  where you used to have
  morning coffee with me,
while overhead is a
signboard that reads
'Welcome to San Antonio!'
It swings back and forth
like a childhood sweetheart
waving outside my window.
  How many sunrises
   will it take

  until its paint peels?
  How many sunsets
   will it make
  until the letters fade?
For now
 I guess
my only choice is to wait
with my cup of coffee
on this chipped wooden seat.
Just like any other morning,
  only colder now.

until the sun will not show
until no water to pour
in the cup of coffee
i will savour still each moment
as I wait on the bench

as long as there are
more than thousands of
words I can bestow
I will write what I ache you to know
Until the moment you show…

Isn’t that immortal love?
If we truly love the person we persist, we dare to do things beyond ordinary, at times we patiently wait until we feel their sweet embrace…

M&M, you have set fire here that touches other spirit!!

I want you to know, I love benches- Sigh, I always wish I can sit and spend even just a moment with someone on a bench and even without saying any word that someone understands the deeper me -- completely…

It is often the little things that reminds us of the ones that aren't with us anymore. In this poem, I thought San Antonio referred to the city in Texas, but it was the name of a shop. It is symbolic of the memories this couple had before one passed away. The person may be gone, but their memories and landmarks remain. 'Tis the circle of life, eventually they'll be reunited... Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed reading!

You are most welcome! Ah yeah I just noticed that 😅
Sometimes change can bring pain. When you use to do some things together, it's really difficult to adjust...to do same things alone. But they always say that true love can wait...and you have to understand someone's decision especially if it's for the future.
When we love, we have to take some risks. When we decide to be someone's partner, we have to endure all the pain of loving him/her. When chances are not too kind, we have to remember that there's a perfect time for everything...and we have to wait for that time.

Such an emotional poem, Kabayan. Who can't relate to a story of a leaving-waiting situation? I commend you for this very splendid piece. You have that unique style of writing which anybody could admire. Keep it up!

Holy hell this poem is awesome. I really enjoyed the sensory detail and overall imagery of the poem. Another powerful thing about this piece would be that you made me really dislike the person you were talking about, which can be very difficult to carry through in a poem. Great job, Maryanne

Thanks Adam, good to see you by!
Your poetry always reaches down into a deep part of me and something inside always says quietly, yes, I can relate to those feelings. '

'Just like any other morning,
only colder now'

How often do we feel that kind of tug on our hearts as the rest of the world goes merrily on their way...love this!

A profound poem, a well expressed introspection of yearning, a sort of metaphor. I like your style and very impressive.

Thank you Sir Ency:) Glad you enjoyed it.
Honestly this could be a song. This was beautiful. I was drawn by the title, I live in San Antonio. Not what I expected but more than I could have hoped for. This was simply beautiful. So very sad how the heart interprets the world around it when it is in pain. You have described it very well.
