Suffering the Darkness

Suffering the Darkness

A Poem by Andrew Rayne
"

Embrace that which makes you stronger.

"
I have always read that fear is evil.
That is a cruel,
tormenting emotion that would bring even the brightest souls to their knees.
Merciless,
that's what they said.
Fear can never be endeared.

In the end,
I have listened to it's name for a long while.
Have walked in valleys of dishonor,
weakness and failure;
Seen the dark that shuns our strength.
I have suffered the disease that makes men cowards,
woman helpless and children afraid of fists.

However I would never call myself weak for being afraid.

Fear shows you what your weakness is,
and once you understand your weaknesses you can persevere
and overcome it.
I say fear is not evil but rather,
passionately trying to make us stronger.
Never have I suffered so little after learning that that which I fear
makes me better.
That fear does inspire fury but compassion,
and because I am afraid I am kinder;
Not because I fear unkindness,
but rather that I have become to kind to let
anything account my fear as weakness.
As an insecurity.

My fear is my guide.
I am stronger, wiser, and kinder because of it,
and it will always allow me to be afraid of that which I will overcome.
That kind of sacrifice, endurance, and suffering is necessary
to challenge what was once thought impossible.

Thank you kindly!
I really enjoyed this. Well-written poem about turning fear to your advantage. I feel the same way about fear, so this poem really connected with me. Great job, keep up the good work!
