Superman snorts

crushed kryptonite

at bulletspeed.

Steel flops over a toilet seat.

 

Batman’s fangs

sunk into bottlenecks,

draining life. Robin falls in the shadows

through a ten storey crack.

 

The Hulk does yoga

with angry young men with nothing

left to lose but

everything ahead.

 

Captain America

drowns in oil two

thousand and one times over.

They’ve stolen his shield.

 

Catwoman hangs

with dogs who fetch

drinks and pay

for a fleeting pet.

 

No more die.

No more saved.

No more heroes.
