A Gift

A Gift

A Poem by Andrea Rosanna

She was given an incredible gift

The best most precious little one

Didn’t ask for it on her christmas list

It caught her off guard like a loaded gun

Such priceless gift there’s no way she could keep

Of what she doesn’t have so much it would take

Dreaming she still has it when she’s asleep

Had to give it back for her future’s sake

Certainly not for lack of love at all

For that alone she had enough to give

In this world love seems to be tiny small

Insignificant to live and let live

No lovely gift to hold with tenderness

The gift left a hole, a dark emptiness.
