M=Music

M=Music

A Poem by Andy Ruffett
"

A poem that every musician needs to read.

"

We play for the world to hear

but we don’t know who we play for

When we blow our horns,

they hoot and scorn

at our talent

When we tell them to love,

they break down and shove

our bodies out the door

When we tell them to hate,

they embrace the mistakes

and let us walk out the door

When we tell them to cry,

we mope,

they reply

and gesture towards the floor

When we say we’re “fine,”

they yawn and then cry

and we don’t feel fine anymore

But when they say that we’re “sick,”

we get up and quick

because if they tell us to quit

we couldn’t be s**t

when M equals music

I am a musician and luckily have not been shunned but have seen it many times before. A musician is like a poet, laying their soul bare for all to see... If they cannot see the beauty in that they should walk the floor straight out of the door!! well penned, a content close to many a heart.

M is such a mystery even in its perceived mastery.

Sometimes the audience seems so distant. There has to be an audience for it to mean anything, but sometimes the audiences are very exclusive or then again gigantic. I sounds like there is a lot more to this than meets the eye.

There should always be hidden messages in poetry and all writing for that matter.

i'm not a musician, but i admire the metaphor. it's true we play a role in every facet of our lives with different people in different worlds. but i also think that as a piano, they're going to get the note they just played. you get what you give. great job.

Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
quitters never win....what an artistic piece of writing
every emotion is given less thought then the painful ones just like the media
pain and sorrow sell happiness and love not needed
thank you so much for sharing

So true.
True. A friend of mine from here, Chris (hello Chris if you're reading this!) commented this in one of my works: "Serious" is what we each decide upon. I could very well incorporate that here... "Music" is what we each decide upon. You can't seriously think people would like what we like (Right Izaak? a.k.a indigo sunshine?) so I guess this is a great interpretation of what music really mean :)

I'm glad you think that.
I'm not a musician, but I think this is an interesting take on how music can move the creator.
