GREECEA Poem by Andy RuffettThe state of GreeceWhat
has happened to Greece? Everything
used to be so neat and so clean Now
it’s a giant monstrosity for the wellbeing Athens
is a dump and the people live in fear Through
every day and through every year The
government is a sham Slicing
the people like ham They
don’t understand That
they need to take command What
happened to the good old days when we were a superpower? We
had Gods, democracy, and places to bathe You
could have a descent shower Now
the plumbing is shot and Greece seems to rot In
a gurgling bubbling mess Take
a hand, oh government Take
command, oh government Do
not wallow in your own filth The
Greeks created everything Don’t
deny it, it’s true Everything
that contributes to living What
we need to pull through We
had scholars, philosophers, scientists, and poets Everybody,
anybody who was considered important We
had Socrates, Heracles, Plato, and Homer My
list would be longer but it needs to be shorter Don’t
want to drag this poem on for too long For
people will get bored Some
don’t understand That
poetry’s an art A
gift from above Some
that many dream of Greece,
we created it all Why,
oh why did we have to fall? At
least we haven’t fallen over one little feat The
fact that the Greeks are healthy, We
know how to eat © 2011 Andy RuffettReviews
