Chapter 9

Chapter 9

A Chapter by Andy Ruffett

At 3:00 p.m., a green Honda Civic parked itself in the driveway beside a dark red cottage. Once the car was parked and the ignition was turned off, a 33-year-old woman with long red hair wearing a bright blue dress and yellow heels got out of the car and locked the doors.

Her name was Josephine Burke and she had been staying with her friend Beretta Clarthorn's place for a week. She hadn't seen her in two years and an hour before Josephine was leaving to go back to their cottage Beretta invited all of her old friends from high school. All Josephine remembered is that there was a lot wine, a lot of drinking, and she was surprised she was able to drive home safely without killing herself or anyone else. She was also thankful that no police cruisers had stopped her.

As Josephine walked up the stairs tipsily and pushed her key into the lock, she found the door was unlocked and swung open unexpectedly.

What she saw behind the door made her scream in horror.

There was her husband Bill Burke, covered in blood with a steak knife through his chest, lying dead on the floor.
