Sizzling Summer’s DayA Poem by Andy RuffettA limerick in the good old Dr. Seuss fashion. It was a sizzling summer’s day, in the mid-month of May And all the little children were running out to play The park was infested with kids of all ages And the teacher McMall was watching them all She watched some of the children play ball Others dived in the pool or built castles in the sand And one even put sock puppets on his hand He went down to the sandbox to show off his socks But the children didn’t care as they sat in the box The boy was discouraged and showed the socks to his friend His friend was named Suzy Baloozy McBend The boy and Suzy played for hours Until they felt drops of rain which turned into showers McMall had to rush the kids back to school The ones who were swimming, didn’t care to get wet They were swimming in the pool But McMall soon had all the kids lined up And soon they were heading off To the public school they had left to go to the park But now they were leaving because of the rain and the dark
It had been a sizzling summer’s day in the mid-month of May And all the little children had run out to play They had played in the park but then it rained and got dark And so all of the children ran away
