"Miles To Go Before I Sleep..."  *

Within our homes,

within our hearts - lives...

we keep a place for footwear.

Shoes - pride-full, leathers soft and glow-warm

  life-aged, time - worn
  buffed to glisten
chafed with the touch of existence

soles marred as our souls are borne.

Sandals - to fit the work or talk

cushions to bear the effort of our walk
gnarled by stones, pavement, burdens, tomes.

Slippers - for being home

special softnesses for the moments when
we pause in our living, our being whom we must.

and then the boots - for some they are work boots
for some - Combat Boots

for some they are all the same words

Combat - work - helping - living - dying ...being.

Walking in our shoes

we are fishers-of-men
and children of the lesser God
whose words we wish we kept

...within.

Chris

Chris, I almost hate trying to review your work. Any piece at random of yours is almost guaranteed to make me think about its point for far too long to manage a review that isn't nonsensical, and I don't think I've ever seen a hint of an error or area I could where I could help you improve. Quite simply, your writing is too clever for me to feel anything but foolish when I try to review it. That being said, this piece, as usual, makes creative use of fonts and layout to draw attention to key phrases, which contributes to its metaphor.

An excellent meditation of what living life is like. It's a hike, and many times, you have to take one to enjoy it.

Beautiful prose.

Thank you for pausing... hope I see you again.
You've touched on the human heart and conditions of in sort of a roundabout way which is very creative, unique, and out of the ordinary. I've read your work before but through my own deficiencies didn't always catch on. You have a special voice and a unique one nevertheless. Great writing.
