I was reading Miss Roberta Anic's work - "A Place In My Soul".

http://www.writerscafe.org/writing/Faithlessgirl/981981/

Her thoughts coupled with the pic she chose and posted - led my mind along the path as this began to flow.  She wrote a power-and-heart-full work quite thought-full and stirring ...and to my mind - years and years beyond where any young teenage miss should knowingly have to be.  We so easily forget our world is not all the same place - being just a click away from heaven and hell - "...we aren't in Kansas anymore..." really does have meaning.

"How do you handle being afraid?..."

You write down the pains

and it takes them from your existence

- one by one

- breath by breath

night by day by night by life.

And the tears fall
when the silence allows...
and the afters come calling
each time the eyes try to close.

And all the sights and sounds
crowd close and close -

each but a glance away
- a next breath - away
a next moment
- away

from every now.

What IS the price of your soul?

- a loaf of bread

a sausage

a few scattered vegetables
near the bloodied hand

alone on the ground -

and the sounds

and the sounds

and the ...

it wasn't a friend

-this time

this time

this     time

but it was - to someone

somewhen and where and place

its scars were earned

each callous meant the world

the very, very world

- to someone.

I heard Jimmy Dean sing this and it said it well... but I couldn't find his so this is
Henson Cargill Who did it first ( I believe)

and the time and place doesn't really matter because the names just change to protect the guilty and the tears still fall each and every night and day.

So how do you handle being afraid?

Breathing sometimes takes conscious effort...

silent I stand in shadow-edged tranquillity
silhouette of owl and tree
my only midnight company…
soft tender moonlight adorned my skin
with a fluttering of cashmere kisses
and for a moment I forgot
lost memories and tear-stained wishes...Shar
