"My Autumn Rose..."

"My Autumn Rose..."

A Poem by Chris
"

October

"

“My Autumn Rose…”

Stood outside this morning,

leaned on the porch rail

just looking, wishing for the sun.

And the stillness filled me,

…chilled me,

coiled around and through me.

Then held me

- transfixed in place and time.

From the mug in hand -

the coffee mysts rose

and intermingled with the deepening haze

as the darkening grey spread edge-to-edge.

I watched, lost in my own moment -

of an October come home

to play.

The trees are so alive in their deathlike sleep,

such hues framing our very existence -

as yet - so few branches show bare,

…so few… stark reminders -

of tomorrows to come

and tomorrows that came.

This morning …life… paused

and with the silence

I held my breath

waiting

…waiting…

for a sound I only now hear within.

It came …I smiled,

turned and went inside.

For me it really isn't work - just life as I know and live with it.
There was a recurring thought, growing up, to give autumn 🍂 trees ™ sleeping 😴 gear so they look less death like and bedraggled, that sort of random feel when being lost in the autumn moments. Perhaps we too begin an awareness of a similar process of seasons within ourselves and learn more to dance n time.

THAT is a precious step to suggest... and thought-full. Thank you.
Ah… I do wonder what memory you were waiting to hear?
What a beautiful writing.
The winter comes over and over. Each season killing off one more memory, or did it create one? Hmmm…

I’m not sure I can handle another Spring, knowing how it all ends.

Thank you for this very human poem.

Scott.

Every now and then there is a single moment that transcends and remains fixed in our memories. It is usually very sensory, like your poem. You created such an authentic setting, I felt right there, even though this was a private, almost cocooned, moment.

YOU are always welcome to pause with me...
Love the bold strokes with which you have painted this autumnal canvas Chris. The opening stanza lines
And the stillness filled me, chilled me, coiled around and through me. Then held me- transfixed in place and time.
with their flowing cadence wrapped around me as I read and I could only pull them tighten as I walked to poem's end.

great read
