"Memorial Day..."

"Memorial Day..."

A Poem by Chris
"

Written this morning in the sun.

"

“Memorial Day…”

A day of futures’ passed -

my mind focused

  on yesterwhens

…walls revisited

  D.C. Wall

  Camp Geiger front,

  the Memorials.

Cemeteries and memories

    … and memories …

    worldwide.

A time for toasting “Missing Friends”

  and recognizing sacrifice.

…old one’s ramblings and musings

   and sometimes …amusings.

…young ones lost in parades

    and stardust’s glow.

Some remember -

  some live to forget,

    and some …NEVER knew…

Freedoms are N E V E R free.

We and our hopes exist

  in a “have-not” world.

Our hallowed halls were earned

and individual rights cost … blood.

The Glory in Death is A L W A Y S

  afterward

In another’s dreams of neverwere.

None but the tears live on…

Semper Fi to those that know

Laters to those that don’t.

We loose our friends along the way, we step into graveyards and we honour those who have fallen. Well said

Such superb, sincere and heartfelt recognition of those who served. As ever your writing really does touch your readers' emotions, Chris, and you, sir, know only too well why and how.

Dawns on me, if I may: that whilst the pandemic rages, it might be apt to tell those unaware of what war does - that the present evil is how war can be - endless fatalities and little or nothing to stop them - frequently by those in power and in certain cases, because of them.

I say emen to your powerful words and god bless those that served

Young people (and even some older people) don't realize the sacrifices that were made by those who gave us freedom. I - as one who never served - salute all the brave men and women who did. Thank you, Chris.

The times powered choices and like always the politicians gave us all away.
