"Symbolism..."

"Symbolism..."

A Poem by Chris
"

Think on it

"

I wonder when people find that maybe there wasn’t any …ANY… symbolism in what they were given to view and hear - I wonder if they will just make up their minds and create the hidden revelations behind the phrases you didn’t create to hide an unintended musing.

“Symbolism…”

You ever sit outside

while the snow falls?

The blanket covers all the dark

and the misty breath forms

droplets ...to hide the tears.

Sometimes I can even FEEL

and the shiver enwraps my heart

and cracks the chill ice.

Symbolism I find a powerful weapon, not only for the outlying message of a particular piece but what it can subconsciously do to the mind the reader. Often i find the deepest parts of a piece have to be digested from that symbolism.

there is symbolism in the symbolism of the symbolism...and yet often...the meaning is just staring us in the face...maybe we do use symbolic meanings less often than we think...maybe we are just writing it like it is...

often my students...once we study poems with symbolic meanings, start to see everything as a symbol for something else...maybe there is too much of that....and we aren't as deep as we profess to be.

this one makes me ponder..not so much between the lines, but just about the words you actually said.

We use to have to dissect the words of dead poets in Lit class to find the intended thoughts in the symbolism of their work.. I am reminded of Sigmund Freud’s cigars..
