"Take Two Aspirin And..."

A Poem by Chris
"

Was once a sort of standing joke of a CALLED Doctor at midnight saying "Take two aspirin and call me in the morning." for damn near anything that bothered someone.

"

“Take Two Aspirin And…”

At times I miss you terribly,

at times I remember when I didn't -

and please understand,

I'm happier now because I do.

Having had to remember how to breathe

doesn't make it hurt less… but…

at least now

the pain makes sense …ya see?

Chris

Was once a sort of standing joke of a CALLED Doctor at midnight saying "Take two aspirin and call me in the morning." for damn near anything that bothered someone.  Hence the title.

If you imagine yourself sitting on a stonework wall - say at midnight... thinking.  OR Perhaps a pew in a church, a memorial.  OR laying in your bed at 3 AM.  OR at a wake.  Or any of 100's of other places, times.

"…At times I miss you terribly, …" - the world's a cold and darker place with you not here.

"…at times I remember when I didn't - …" - I can still remember how I was, hell - how LIFE was, before we met - empty, silent, lifeless.

"...and please understand,..."  - Sometimes we do speak to our memories - when they matter or are that REAL to us.

"...I'm happier now because I do. ..." -  You made everything ...better, brighter... you just made everything...

Sometimes

...we just whisper and

the wind carries us away -

Gawd alone knows where.

And somedays we might awaken

to sunlight and the taste of lips

softly touching ...ours -

tomorrows to share and live;

and somedays

we might not want to awaken any more -

our bare lips and the cold exhales,

darkened skies and empty hands…

all the silence inside.

Life happens…

people touch us - deeply

and the shadows grow

longer and longer

as the footsteps go silent

and the world doesn’t pause

or leave a tear to show

we were.

No I am staying in, I prefer to stay in with family. :)
The emotion is riveting in this writing and can apply to all kinds of love-spouse, child, friend. The world may not inn the end remember, but those whose lives we have touched, do. A heartwarming piece.

Age lends an intuitive vision in all directions: past, present, and future.

I'm reminded of the words of William Wordsworth: "We poets in our youth begin in gladness; but thereof comes in the end despondency and madness."

This poem speaks of life and love, the heartache thereof, the acceptance, and the sorrow.

It suits the autumn season. As dying leaves skirt the ground with sounds of departure, your poem weeps but the tears no longer show.

I'm not wordless but thinking on this is a poem all of itself.
Very philosophical with a positive theme, life goes on but we will always have the memories !

Soulfully penned, this was a stirring read !

Call away... smiling here
Remember me? Thought I'd stop by anyways this makes me think that people and time leave all at once. I mean we are here and then we are gone but the time in which we were here leaves when we do. All the remains are memories, possible creations of pretend.

I hope it fun too... we need to have smiles and places to go.
This poem reminded me that it is not time that slips away, it is the people who we love and who love us...So lets cherish them and tell them that we love them. For when that coldest day comes when we just don't want to awaken, we have the satisfaction of having done our best and not the grief of realising it all too late...I'll act right away!

I am very deeply moved by your words Chris! Thank you so much for this write.
