I very much agree. Being yourself can bring great things, but also devastating situations as well. The world won't like who you are. There are bullies, and the media, and television and magazines all telling you to be something else. To be fake. And when you resist that, you become strong and confident and crate a heaven for yourself inside of your mind. It's wonderful, yet crushing at the same time.
Rogue suggested I check your work out and I am glad she did. Our styles are very different like she said but this is a beautiful and yet dark poem. Loved it!
Surely we can only be ourselves; whether or not we make changes, give more, take less, understand our own flaws, ignore others'. We make our own heaven and hell, we dilute both according to whims - In the process we create our own dreams or nightmares then, live or destroy them. Sad, but possibly probable.

It's like Locard's exchange...I always take some trace evidence away from your pieces, useful evidence, evidence which defines you more clearly than you were defined even 5 minutes ago, and I leave my own bit of trace behind, my appreciation for your work, my admiration for your written words.
