6. "A Good Depression Is A Terrible Thing To Waste..."

A Chapter by Chris
"

Roses, Violets, and other fancy stuff...

"

"A Good Depression Is A Terrible Thing To Waste..."

Cafe tables and sidewalks...

traffic flowing -

     always flowing by.

Sometimes the moments aren't really shared...

just used.

"Eleflump..."

Moms come in all ages

...as do children.

And all memories aren't tear-full

nor play-full

nor regret-full

...or keepable...

Was just a Pink Princess Tea Set

- and only $5.95,

I turned andwalkedaway...

"A Good Depression Is A Terrible Thing To Waste..."

"I wish you were here...

just to say goodmorning,

hello,

hi,

...anything."

"I sat here thinking of what to say

if any were to pause today

and yet I know what isn't to be

...but it didn't rain

isn't ...raining

here

- just a darker shade of way."

Shades and shadows,

sounds and tones -

echoes come and fade and flow,

smell the sea ...just over - there.

     sand crunches on the asphalt

     as the tires whisper-retch along

going, going -

     going ...gone

where once I was

and you weren't even  ..a hope

and then you  - were

and so many hopes began and fell

and hours still pass in whispers of will

- the sunrise or

midnight flavor ...today.

Nights and days

hours to weeks

     minutes to yours

so many lifetimes each pause as I breathe

     drawn along by sense-less dreams

-but we smiled

you - and I

...didn't we?

"Duet..."

Sparrow touched cloud's edge -

then vanished within the grey

...crystal tears soon fell.

I found the sitting here

harder - today.

I listened still -

     always do

but, the tones fell flat

     behind my eyes

as even the echoes

faded, faded...

so far away

even I began to wonder

would a tear really fall

if...

Aside from the title, which I found engagingly unique, the writing here is superb.

As an art form, the ultimate aim of poetry, (well, for me,) is to provide an experience above the pure physical; to be able to 'taste' what the writer is conveying, both emotionally and intellectually, and from the very first stanza I was hooked. The whole poem is a joy to read, but that first stanza with its powerful scene setting imagery, is the one that impacted the most.

Really enjoyed this.

this one here reminded me of classical music starts off beautifully and calm and outta nowhere climax:

"I sat here thinking of what to say
if any were to pause today
and yet I know what isn't to be
...but it didn't rain
isn't ...raining
here
- just a darker shade of way."

After a week of drying out I might get to join you in that great grass endeavor!
Like this piece, you have wrapped so many thoughts and emotions... and still had room for the reader to slide into the seat near and get caught up in all that swirled and turned through this lovely, sad, melancholy write. An honest write... as only you would/could write.
Well done, my friend.

That's very true. Many would like to say, "I wish it had turned out different." But, in the end isn'.. read more
Tough emotion to write on..... tougher to suffer. You've framed it here in three movements, the prose always flowing. But it's not just prose, it's emotion-words, word-emotions.... the delivery is almost like playing a game of solitaire with a special deck of cards. Crafting in depression... a very hard thing to do.

Smiles are a grand gift, when they are truthfully given
Hands shake, hearts quiver ..but for such different reasons, now
Wishes die and not many light candles in memory of-
Flat tones roll out of talking heads.. we hear only always- saids..
Suddenly a memory floats by, but we are to dehydrated to cry.
I miss you.. I miss me .. and I wonder if any love will ever be..

It's so windy here, the trees have lost so much
Trees are so green, together in row, or by them selves
They don't seem to give up easily .. they just keep reaching..

How do you get everything we feel, in one poem Chris ..?
Great lines .. a lot of heart ..

So much being said in these lines...
"just a darker shade of way" captures a great deal too.
Thoughts felt, conveyed, expressed.
Wonderings... shared - and I'm sure the answer to the ending is "yes"
Fabulous writing, my friend!

I enjoyed this write Chris. I felt like a child was missing their mother... A grown child. The stanza about memories and how they differ hit me at my softer core. The worst thing about some depressions is the inability to cry... at least that would validate a feeling. I will pray that tear falls.
A deeply felt work Chris.
