"A Day In The ...Life..."

Walking the battlefields

...it's what we do

each day

- so much an evermore.

Fresh-cut field,

dandelions random hues - heads above the crowd;

the scent of "fresh" in the air

Tee's and tie-dyes

skirts and jeans

spikes and blues, reds, pinks, and greens

- Goths glancing over unturned pages

trees remembering how to preen.

Dogs seeking approvals and

Attention!

People - no less than the dogs too,

Oblivious squirrels that really never are - oblivious

...just tamed dumb enough to beg...

no less than the people do.

Benches to mark our passings

trash cans to hold our presence...

children to populate the dreams being dreamt...

the soft and ever scuff of ...footsteps

somewhere in the present

somewhere IN a "present"

somewhen become another now...

a yesterday in the making,

a tomorrow too soon forgotten,

a today's forevermore.

We used to play -

being soldiers

at being - adults

at being - children

at being - friends

at Being...

with friends

as friends

...forevermores

...nevermores

anymore

we stare into "our" distances

see our sights - chosen

- and not as chosen.

Sometimes I spit into the wind

words that still come back

and back

and back

because one day someone else

will be where I am ...and understand.

So many things that have to be said then done
Bridges burning to never be rebuilt
I don't want to look back .. or ahead
There is something to be said for forgetfulness
Beginnings and endings being announced
And all I truly want to be is somewhere over a rainbow..
