Meet My Depression

Meet My Depression

A Poem by Anaya
"

something different, hope you enjoy

"

Hello there

I’m Anaya’s depression

You might ask why she consistently

Get’s so little rest in

Well I'm here to answer all your questions.

I came to her when she

was young and alone.

No house to really

Call a home.

Recklessly abused,

Crying every night,

Cause she was on her own.

She prayed to god one night,

That he insure she never wake again,

I simply came to her not as a enemy,

But as a caring friend.

I gave her the option,

Of the end.

Kind of planted the rotten seed

In her precious mind.

I told her to hurry up

Told her she was running out of time.

I mean her innocence and her happiness hung up

So when things got tough I simply just hit her line.

She picked up

And obliged.

Because at the end of the day

I was right,

I told her she had no reason to live

I simply reminded her of her terrible life.

I didn’t even abandon her at night,

But surely I didn’t put those

 tears in her eyes,

I just pushed her to give in to the pain,

I just told the truth, never lied.

But now she wants me gone,

And I can’t seem to fathom why,

All I ever did was help her try,

Even with the knife and pills,

that one time.

But our friendship is to strong,

I’m never saying goodbye,

We are 110% BFF’s, it's for life.

As a former mental health worker, I like it. If depression could be personified, this is indeed how it might speak. The disease does encourage distorted thinking of the negative sort, does try to convince the afflicted one that death is preferable to hanging on. It is truly a life threatening illness.

Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed!
It's superb! Reminds me of the Jack framing in Fight Club. Do you ever write true biographical stories about yourself as well? Sometimes I'll give the full stories for things... I think my prose is better than my poems.

I thought about writing a story or stories about my life. But I just never sat down and did it.
