Dandelion OfferingsA Poem by Anastasia_Snow
I once met a girl of age three or four.
At first meeting, she offered me Something I will not forget: A small yellow dandelion. She held it out to me, smiling proudly; I accepted it with a "thanks." Polite, not very sincere. I tucked the weed behind my ear. The next time we met, she gave me a leaf; She held it like some precious thing. "I picked this leaf just for you." Another insincere "thank you". I saw her again the very next day. This time, her father was with her. She made me a daisy chain; She offered it like it was gold. Then I realized that these simple flowers Were something precious to the girl. Though her offering was small, In the girl's sight, it was special. This time, I accepted the little gift With real and sincere gratitude. She had offered all she could, And I saw now, she had each time. Before I left, her father thanked me for Politely accepting the chain. "It was a pleasure," I said. To my surprise, it really was. © 2016 Anastasia_SnowAuthor's Note
