Inheritance - A SonnetA Poem by AnastasiaBettsWe've been studying sonnets in our little poetry group. This is my stab at the Shakespearean form.Is it the call of every man to strive To seek a better pathway to success, The praises of his fellows to contrive, Secure his fortunes, monies, and excess? And in so doing, work to pass along His empire to the child he has sired Who will, of course, keep all financials strong Just like his father dear always desired? What if, per chance, the child should reject The plan, so clearly set, upon his birth And choose his life's own pathway to direct What then, this wayward child's life be worth? Let not a fortune's lure be set above A family's worth that's measured by its love. © 2013 AnastasiaBettsAuthor's Note
