A Song of SleepA Poem by AnastasiaBettsWe've been working on sonnets lately in our poetry group. Here's my attempt at Italian Sonnet.
Sing me to sleep on lullabies of thread
A weavers song, plucked by Egyptian hands One woven from two thousand perfect strands A dreamers kiss, like silk upon my head My waking cares, so infinitely spread Throughout my consciousness, to endless scan Are in an instant taken to some land Far distant where no sleeping thought may tread. Though in the deepest night terrors may rise Or fill unknowing minds with baseless fears The dreaming self finds reason little worth And easily can ban Morpheus' lies Allowing souls to move from sphere to sphere Thus bringing rest that gives the mind rebirth. © 2013 AnastasiaBettsAuthor's Note
