Sunday Morning

Sunday Morning

A Poem by AnastasiaBetts
"

What church going family hasn't experienced this? What mom hasn't felt this way? At the time I felt like I was the only one going through this... now that the kids are older, I can laugh about it :)

"

I hate Sunday morning at my house
Where every word ends in a shout

No kind words no gentle prods,
Just parents, kids, at angry odds.

"I don't like church," one child will say,
"I hate church clothes, I want to play!"

"Get dressed now" the parents scream
Trapped in the most irreverent dream.

How I long for loving words,
S'through peace the spirit can be heard

How I dream of one Sunday
When the kids won't want to play

To have the Spirit in our hearts
Bringing the most heav’nly start

Helping each in loving ways
to begin this holy day

Is it really too much to ask?
Is it really too great a task?

We help each other to get dressed
With joyful faces free from stress

No angry words, impatient shouts
Contention is not found about

No sadness and no heavy hearts
Managing the perfect start

Making tall the day divine
Reverence, peace, our state of mind

Illumination fills our heads
each time we hear the scriptures read

The perfect start to the perfect day,
Who would want it any other way?

Instead we've this chaotic scene--
Where children fight, and parents scream

I really understand where you're coming from, but the couplet pattern is overdone nowadays. Overall, I enjoyed it.
