A Mirage in the Night

A Mirage in the Night

A Poem by Ananya

A Mirage in the Night

Softly, on tiptoe she glides,

Silently into the night,

Ethereal and beautiful, her skin

Glows in the soft pale light.

In her white gossamer gown,

She breezes gracefully by,

In awe and wonder at her beauty,

Many breathe a dreamy sigh.

Through the whispery haze at her,

Nocturnal kingdom does she peep,

Queen of her slumbering subjects,

She envies them their sleep.

Wistfully, she gazes sadly,

As she looks in love-filled homes,

For all her regal splendor,

She is always on her own.

She meets no one as she moves,

Along her solitary way,

Her delicate shoulders grow weary,

As night inches into day.

As the rays of dawn break out,

She fades away from sight.

Was she even real?

Or just a mirage in the night?
