Different

Different

A Poem by Ananya

Looking at you
I notice how beautiful your eyes are
Two eyes
I have two eyes as well

With these two eyes
I look at you
Your nose
( Mine is sharper, but still a nose)
Your lips
Mine smile remembering your smiles

My hands
Holding the memories of yours

I trace the outlines
Your features
I can see you even without looking
But I need to see now

I need to see the difference

I am not same as you
That's why I am here and you are not

A difference I never noticed before
In your name
In your ways

You didn't notice either

I wish you had
I wish I knew

Everything the world says about all being same
Is a lie

God made us different
He made you, you
He made me, me

What I am is unacceptable
I call my God differently
You call yours differently

But I always thought
The one who hears both, you and me
Is same.....

Mistaken

Blood flows
Life gets killed
Just because of that.

I didn't know
You didn't know, either

Then why was it only you
Who paid for it?

This one really tugs at my heartstrings. It's the way it's written... it starts out so gentle, sweet, and innocent. You talk about eyes, and how they're beautiful, and how the convey a connection between people. That image means a lot to me. I love to look at people's eyes and see the colors within them (it sounds a little creepy when you think about it - "I like staring into people's eyes" - but I promise it's not). And then you take the image of eyes and carry it into the next stanza, just as you do with the "memories" that follow, the idea of seeing a "difference," and all the other images that come after. There's an almost childlike simplicity to the train of thought, with the gradual realization of a disparity between the speaker and the subject of the poem. The confusion surrounding the idea of having a "different" God feels heartbreakingly real. And then comes the punch to the gut - "Mistaken / Blood flows / Life gets killed / Just because of that." It's a brutal, shocking blow of reality to the innocence behind these questions. The final few lines bring back the themes of both sameness and difference in a powerful and sorrowful way. Excellent work overall. This is profound and moving.

You are paying more than anyone else through no fault of yours.

So sad ending... I wish everyone would understand the difference, they would know the exact way of peace, and would feel the same feeling as the other does. Even I hv felt, I have experienced, me and my best friend have got such differences. That's the reason we are not together today, not in touch too...I am leading my lonely life and may be the same for that best one. Why in the world are there so much differences ??? I fail to understand. I even fail to write abt this topic. And as you have carved a beautiful poem, I feel so much happy for you... This topic was really hard for me to write, in recent days, I was making a research for this topic, I teared almost 20 papers writing abt this. Then finally I placed it aside. Very nicely u wrote the whole poem, with so much simplicity. That's the reason I like your works. Excellent!!!

It's so true, despite our differences we are all the same. I wish we'd all understand that.

Well that is lovely. Truly said there, we may have perceptions of God, but the God of whom we have different perceptions never differs. All of us are same, yet not same, isn't it? This poem has depth of emotions and thoughts. Excellent piece. Keep writing.
