final part...WHO KNOWSA Story by AnanyaA woman's journey through her memories....
Looking out of window, I watch the sky lit up with fireworks ....
A wedding going on somewhere in neighbourhood. We're my wedding invitationd got sent to the next lane? I don't know...but I would like to know... Did you receive one? What did you do? We're you shocked, or sad or nothing like that? I don't know...I will never know... Footsteps on stairs.... Happy voices...they are home... Kids gather around. "Sorry, we got late today. " My son smiled. " We met a gentleman today. Deal fixed. He didn't even bargain" Daughter in law was smiling as she took out boxes of food from the bag. Kids started talking all at once "Mummy, Chinese?" "But I wanted burgers, taayee ji" "Oye, Who wants burgers when you can have noodles" They were eating happily. I was looking at the walls.....my memories dancing on them like a movie playing on cinema screen... Bungalow was lit like a bride.... Mother cried as she put my hand in my future husband's hand.... I cried...as I said goodbye to my unspoken, unseen dreams.... I would be going away....may be forever... I looked around before leaving.... I did not see what I was looking for. "Amma, the gentleman would like to come for tea tomorrow morning. He wants to look around the house before paying the money." "Fair enough" I said. All night I talked to the walls. This is the final farewell Son knocked at the door," Amma, he is here. Come and meet him" I slowly came down the stairs. Painful knees.... Remembering the times when I used to run up and down like I had wings "Namaste", the gentleman stood up with folded hands I looked up. The time froze... Walls laughed..."Didn't we tell you, you hold the whole world in you" I fold my hands in reply," Namaste" .... Good girls do not stare at others faces...... © 2016 Ananya |
