Counting begins , both for the votes and the ribs .
Results are all declared - it says you and me have graduated in Sociology , Economics, and the Mathematics . Mine , a bit more 'fuzzy and sadistically applied' than yours; thus looks a lot more relevant and realistic today .
Having been involved in politics for most of my life, I might have a different take on this than the one you intended. "counting begins both for the votes and the ribs" to me has a connotation of political season and political barbeques beginning....they buy votes with food....influence voters by filling their bellies with food and their heads with promises. A degree in sociology, math, or economics...well, you might have learned the concepts, but when they are applied in the real world, they sure do change things and become "fuzzy", don't they? Obviously this one made me think...which is great. I liked it. Lydi**

Let me tell you one aspect; in India, politicians do not care whether the people are dying out of hunger or not. They care about only the votes. It was pointing towards that scenario.

Anything grey, rather than black and white, can be manipulated by the powers that be to further their own agendas. And many fields that once looked black and white (say Statistics) are now used unscrupulously by those powers - and those who work in those fields are well paid. Much more relevant I'd say. This may be way off the mark, but when I read this I thought of how mad I get when I hear one set of statistics one day and another the next, all purporting to tell me something about the state of the economy. It's still one big mystery to me! Another very thought provoking poem, Anand. You are a master of this kind of poetry.
