Burden of Thoughts

Burden of Thoughts

A Poem by Anand Sehgal

Perhaps we have never pondered over
the possibility that ,
a deceased human being could possess humanity
(although very cold) ;
or it might well contain more warmth
than the ones breathing till date.
Some of the questions about the
mortal beings would certainly
become immortal, gradually.
Had the cognitive mind , along with the
wise soul been destroyed
as soon as a man was dead ,
Libraries wouldn't have wasted racks
stuffed with tons of paper,
explaining the ' Theory of Rebirth' !
The hippo-campus would have enjoyed
a lot more free time with a lesser
number of clamour, 'isms' and 'philosophies' around.

Powerful stuff indeed. I love the first stanza, and the idea of possessing humanity though very cold. It's a unique way of looking at it. I think we all think about these things at some point through our lives, but it takes a poet to present them almost in 3-D, in a way that "ticks off the possibilities; opens all doors" (Jim Morrison). Great work on this one :)

another great poet on this site (as you yourself are a great poet here) , David Lewis Paget, and I had a bit of a conversation about reincarnation. While I don't personally embrace it as part of my specific faith and belief system I do believe that there are parts of us that are infinite.I'm not a wise soul or a preacher, and I have no conversion agenda - but the study of this subject matter and this poem - fascinate me. I love that last line about a lot more free time with a lesser number of clamour and isms. Such an intelligent write.

WOW. this one is intensely thought provoking! Who's to say what happens when the mortal body passes? Does love live on? Does intelligence? You have presented arguments for this and they are valid. I will be thinking about this one a while! Lydi**

A strong and candid write on a powerful topic. You have expressed your feelings and intricate viewpoints with great clarity and emotion. I love the direction that you took this one in, and the way that the last stanza really brings everything together so beautifully. I'm really fascinated with this one...

Thank you my friend. Glad that it brought to you smile :)
An intriguing read - do our living thoughts hold us back? Is it only in dying that we can achieve full humanity - when our thoughts are all that are left? Thoughtful piece here, Anand.

Thanks a lot :)
I think, and I feel exactly what you have so eloquently expressed here. The deceased probably have more warmth of humanity left than some people breathing the life of brutal non-existence.

The burden of thought remains even after someone passes on.

So many great minds have left their beautiful thoughts on our minds, and they live within us.

I think am getting carried away now, Is this what you meant? Or did I get lost in 'the burden of thoughts' and mis-reviewed the piece.

you got the emotions right. You are so kind . Thanks a lot Ma'am :)
These thoughts are always a burden, for me anyway, yet your poetry puts a new perspective on this hypothesis. I'm pretty sure we all come back as butterflies...
