Individuals Survived Individually

Individuals Survived Individually

A Poem by Anand Sehgal

You and me became intimate,
so quickly yet so effortlessly .
Within a few nights we shared a common bed,
the same food plates,
the ward-robe, the mirror;
In a unified domain, we almost became one .

Bewildered, I noticed ,
our nightmares never sat together to
soothe each other;
They kept their insecurities intact,
deep inside,
concealed to their own.

My concerns remained mine,
yours remained yours;
they never became ours.

Thus the individuals survived
individually,
and the kinship succumbed.

It would seem that though individuals must remain individuals, regardless of the relationship between them, that these two have shared too little of themselves - their defenses have never been lowered, in spite of their intimacy. So there was never a true union - sad, but sometimes people have been hurt too many times to trust another with their innermost selves. Another very intelligently written yet emotionally stunning poem, Anand. I am always impressed by your work.

We must share the good and the bad to really become one. All times are not happy ones and we need to know that the other person will be there when we fall.

keeping a relationship intact and healthy is quite a cognitive task !

Fine lines of intimate lust and emotional intimacy... It's great when you can find both. Wonderfully penned. xo Winter

Thanks a lot dear for the review
ah, physical intimacy can never transcend the intimacy of emotions, dreams and desires. you've captured that sentiment so beautifully in this piece. the emotions in this piece were felt poignantly- so unfortunate that relationships end up falling apart like this.

Huh.! what to say, destiny leads it seems, Dana :/
We come into the world alone, and leave it the same way. No matter how long or close a relationship may be, there are things beyond the ability to share. In marriage, they say, two become as one; but that's only in theory. We nurse our own hurts, private thoughts, and experience life as an individual, not as a partnership. No-one really knows anyone else. as you have so successfully delineated in this poem.

True words sir. I am happy that you felt connected to this piece :) regards :)
A thought provoking poem. No matter how intimate you get with a person it is difficult to share your all wit the other person. That omly happens in an ideal relationship......and how many ideal relations do we come across in our lives?
Very beautifully written...............with all your thought coming across clearly.Loved it!!

Glad that you felt connected with Ma'am :) indeed kind comments :)
Yes, that's how it is, and it is better that way trust me. Individuality is something your own, and shared individuality would be sad to the point of being tragic. Nicely written.

Experience is the greatest teacher my friend :)
I can relate to this poet......this is very good. Short, and to the point. My concerns remained mine and yours remained yours.....so sad and yet so frequent...Thank you for sharing
