Meditation on mirror

Meditation on mirror

A Poem by Sapphus

Held in by the glass
Reflected in reverse, I am
inverted heart mimicking me
Two taut dimensions obliterating my third
There's no depth to me, I am
breath and belly sucked in
My mirrored gaze sees me but not me
In a empty world, I am
enslaved by whatever I see
No wonder the mirror thinks it can tell me anything
And I must believe, I am

Powerful and honest thoughts written Sapphus. The reflection in the mirror does keep our secrets. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry. I did enjoy.

A mirror like a photograph is a two dimensional representation. "In a empty world, I am enslaved by whatever I see" So true we are all enslaved by our senses not knowing anything else and finding it difficult to conceive of anything else. A poignant write with a great metaphor.

Thank you Soren.
The mirror doesn't really know our moods, who we are, so we cannot trust it; at once you seem empty, useless, a void... looking in the mirror it doesn't see the real you... perhaps it would be better not to gaze in the mirror....since it doesn't help who we really are........sometimes you feel empty, sometimes you are enamored with yourself.... mirrors are strange things...very nice!

Dear Sapphus
We are so vain and empty and the mirror knows that. It knows we have been enslaved by ourselves and hopelessly in love with ourselves. You did such wonders with expressing our vanity and emptiness. This is a beautiful poem sir.
