Clean Slate

Clean Slate

A Poem by John Prophet

Clean Slate.
Thinning.
Thinning
the weeds.
Ancient
gnarly
logic.
Superstition
based.
Mind
muddling.
Trim past
concepts.
Leave
in the
past.
Faulty,
limited
concepts.
Toss
to the
side.
Ancient
philosophical
rhetoric.
Fear based
propaganda.
Gods
on high.
Commanding
adherence.
Earth bound
protagonist.
Demanding
compliance.
Nothing more.
Power.
Only power
ruling the
roost.
Few
controlling
the masses.
Mindless
acceptance.
To what’s
being told,
sold.
Power
and riches
to those
who’d
control.
Charlatans all.
No nothings
claiming
knowledge.
Claiming
wisdom.
Where
none
can be
found.
Nothing!
Wipe
the slate
clean.
Pushing
boundaries.
Think
outside
the box.

Much truth here. Though not all priests were charlatans, they were the only ones who were literate. Therefore they could control the masses, who were both ignorant and superstitious. Of course, literacy is universal now, and the political situation in the US seems full of ignorance. Perhaps progress is a relative thing.

Thanks for reading. True. But the masses are still easily led and misled. Thanks for reading.

I teach my students and work to get them to think outside the box.
Pushing boundaries as you say here...I like the narrowness of the poem as the form fits the content that so many are afraid to face by thinking outside the box.
Wisdom will not be found when we are narrow minded...we just become parrots voicing opinions that are not even our own.
Quite like this piece, John.
