Darkness: Hold Me Close

Darkness: Hold Me Close

A Poem by Amy J

Darkness hold me close my friend

Darkness be my kindness

Darkness is what brings me here

For darkness is what guides us

For isn't it light that blinds us dear?

Darkness hold me close my friend

Darkness be my kindness

Darkness hide my tears again

Darkness drown my sorrow

Darkness hold me strong

Till light returns tomorrow

Darkness find my fears

For they have fled me now

Darkness hide my tears again

Darkness drown my sorrow

Darkness defy the candle, dear

Darkness make me scared

Darkness doubt my every thought

For thinking drives me there

Darkness dare the moon to shine

Darkness doom the night

Darkness hold me close my friend

For darkness is my life

Hmm... to me the first 2 stanzas are a bit weird because of not being uniform like the last stanza, which is awesome and blew me away. I love the last stanza because of its chant-like style, it's simply haunting. The poem is good, philosophical too, but a little bit depressing nonetheless.

In all very good job :D

whoa! frightening first verse for me! its more spiritual/philosophical ... darkness be my kindness and isn't it light that blinds us ... and isn't it darkness that would have us believe it so?? :)
in the second and third verses.. who hasn't sought the darkened room ... that silent place to hide from our pain ... not wanting consoling friends who only want to pontificate and tell us we should do this or that ... this is a very interesting poem to me ... written on many levels ... raises a lot of questions ... makes me want to know this person more ;) i am not well educated on form but this seems to hint of some classical form but is not quite ... did it simply come out this way?

The first two stanza seem to have a similar movement to them and the third is more direct without the repeating of the two lines. I wasn't sure if that was on purpose or not? Either way this poem really reached out and spoke to me. It was hauntingly alluring! Great job!

Wow - a unique perspective on the darkness and its long-worn lable of dreariness and doom. A poem in praise of it. Very refreshing AmyJ - thats what I like - being 'shown' a new way of looking at things.
thank you

Thank you!
Sometimes in life we tend to feel in darkness when depression defeats us
But the light is always there, sometimes waiting for us and sometines we have to make our own light to get out of the darkness.
Beautiful description and poem

This poem is utterly beautiful. Being a philosophical person, I see the darkness not as a bad thing, but as something that can molded. This shows responsibility to responsible. The darkness can be seen as bad from onlookers. But for the person, it can be a place of solace. This poem takes us to the place of solace, similar to an exclusive tour.

I have a personal "Best Poems" list, they're the poems I put forward first. This needs to be put on yours.
