An unwonted penchant!A Poem by Amrita Sharma PokharelYou can fall for anything, On this earth, I don’t judge myself To be dim-witted For being in love… With that tiny silly, Barely discernible charm… This time, it was… A tiny brown gastropod, Crawling languidly over my fence, Never noticed before, Nor did I give any attention… To its existence! But, My realization of its subsistence, Enthralled me, I begin to praise the sluggishness, Shelled inside the brown spiral stripes, A misty creature created by Him, The track it left, Behind every crawl, On my window pane! On the garden fence! And on my mind…! In a haze day, Resting on this chair I grasped its way of life! From rising sun to drowsy moon... I marvel why I was so rapt, For this indolent performer! With the fading moonlight, I could spot the silhouette, Like vanquished the great warrior’s crown! Moving slothfully, Beneath the moist fence! A lure in the ugliness! Tantalizing me, Even in that darkness, I was following its progress, I knew, I was falling for it… Webbed in an unreal love, A psychotic admiration, I know… Certainly, I don’t judge myself To be dim-witted! © 2015 Amrita Sharma PokharelAuthor's Note
