I'm Trying

I'm Trying

A Poem by Angel Alli
"

Breaking the cycle.

"

I had my life together before we met.

You took that and screwed it all up.

When you hung that rope around your neck.

Can I say, “f**k you, look what you’ve done?”

Now I’m lying in pieces.

My heart you have wrung.

I’m too much like you now.

In fact, sometimes, I feel eerily close.

Years have passed, though I’m still in this void.

I don’t want to hurt others, like you’ve hurt me.

I don’t blame you, but you’ve had your effect.

Sometimes slipping away seems like the greatest friend.

I can’t give up. You wouldn’t want that.

You would want me to be happy,

And I’m trying.

I promise I’m trying.

Words that ache from line to line. Nicely worded.
When fierce is the struggle...courageous is the one who strives. Best of good fortune, dear poet.
